@ferweer if you experience eye pain from the colorize mask overlay color, you
can create a filter layer above the colorize mask with Adjust -> Color
Adjustment Curves. Put the first (left, bottom) point higher than it is and the
second (right, top) point much lower. It should reduce the brightness of the
preview.

Another workaround would be to change the "Canvas Border Color" in Configure
Krita -> Display -> Grid Settings to be much brighter (so there will be less
contrast).

Other than that, I believe this is a wish and more in line of "allow the user
to adjust the color of the overlay of the Colorize Mask", not necessarily "make
it greyer". That would work for your usecase and possibly for others, too.

Btw. on a more personal note: if you experience pain, it might be that you
either (1) have incorrect settings on your display (you can check if the same
.kra file has the same issue on another display/computer), (2) you're working
in a room that is too dark (it's not good for the eyes if the screen is much
brighter than the environment), (3) you might have some issues with your eyes?
(Of course the last option is the worst so it's better to rule out all the
previous ones first).
