This is a Qt bug, there are already various entries in the bug tracker but no
real solution yet. Under MacOS a second virtual desktop is opened in fullscreen
mode, but Qt does not close it when returns to normal mode, so a dead widget
remains. I'm going to try a workaround for MacOS.
