Please start digiKam from a Terminal and run Slideshow again, not in
fullscreen. Report the text trace here.

Q : Which MacOS do you use exactly ?
Also, instead 6.4.0, please try with current 7.0.0-beta3 package comming with
more than 600 bug fixes.
