Can confirm, kdialog works for me too when run standalone like that.
Are you using Firefox from Flatkap or snap, or are you forcing portals by
setting GTK_USE_PORTAL=1? I wasn't aware that Kubuntu's Firefox was able to use
a KDE file picker...
