open k launcher, left and icon, and the menu appears but you cannot search in
the search menu. This also affects dialog boxes asking for credentials but
seemingly nothing else in the system. I believe it has something to do keyboard
layout; when installing the OS I selected UK English, and this is what it
displayed upon login. But it was in practice a us layout. I went into the
layout settings and there were no layout there, I added English uk and shortly
after that I noticed this bug. Changing it back does not solve the issue.
This is a security issue as I have to write passwords in clear when the system
requires authentication i.e. synaptic and system operation related dialogs for
which the system needs authorisation.
