I found the problem on Kubuntu 16.04.2 running KDE 5.5 on Intel HD4000 GPU. I will try some backport repositories for getting something newer, but at least there's hope. (I'm wondering why it's still reported as open, then, I may have skipped the rant...) Thanks for the advice!
