Bug ID: 528342
Summary: Changing the editor font in Kate Settings does not
apply immediately to currently open documents
Classification: Applications
Product: kate
Version First 26.08.2
Reported In:
Platform: Arch Linux
OS: Linux
Status: REPORTED
Severity: normal
Priority: NOR
Component: kwrite
Assignee: [email protected]
Reporter: [email protected]
Target Milestone: ---
SUMMARY
When changing the editor font in Kate's appearance/font settings, the new font
is not applied to the currently open document(s). Instead, the change only
takes effect for newly created or subsequently opened documents.
STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Open Kate and have an active document open in the editor (either an existing
file or an untitled buffer with some text).
2. Navigate to **Settings** -> **Configure Kate...** (or press `Ctrl+Shift+,`).
3. Go to **Editor Component** -> **Fonts & Colors** -> **Font** tab.
4. Select a noticeably different font family or font size.
5. Click **Apply** and then **OK**.
OBSERVED RESULT
The currently open document retains the previous font family and size. The
newly selected font is only visible when creating a new document (`Ctrl+N`) or
opening another file.
EXPECTED RESULT
The newly selected font settings should be applied immediately to all currently
open document views in the editor upon clicking **Apply** or **OK**, without
requiring the user to reopen the files or restart the application.

### ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
* This appears to be an issue with how `KTextEditor` / Kate's view
configuration propagates global schema/font updates to existing
`KTextEditor::ViewPrivate` instances at runtime.
