KMainWindow: don't persist dock state until the window has settled applyMainWindowSettings() restores the dock state before the window reaches its final size, so QMainWindow squeezes the docks while it lays them out. DockResizeListener took the resize, show and hide events from that for user changes and marked the settings dirty. The autosave then wrote the startup layout over the saved state, so a dock lost width on every launch and a panel the user had closed came back. Arm the listener only once the window has been shown and its initial layout has drained.
