Summary: French translation result in very wide config window
in Okular
Classification: Applications
Product: okular

Target Milestone: ---
The french translation of some minor config options creates a window of 1295
pixels wide. Problem is in General options which is the first config part
opened. Two translated strings are on the right and one is on the left. From
top to bottom :
1. On the right
«Utiliser les informations du fichier pour déterminer s'il faut ouvrir en
mode continu par défaut»
2. On the right, if above is checked
«Ouvrir en mode continu par défaut les fichiers sans informations de
propriétés»
3. On the left
«Chevauchement pour les touches « Page précédente » / « Page suivante » :
WORKAROUND
One obvious solution is to switch everything to the right, but that is a UI
problem. As a simple fix, reducing the length of the strings will help. Quick
sample below use shorter french words, abbreviations , rewriting and keyboard
symbols.
1. Utiliser les informations du fichier pour déterminer s'il faut ouvrir en
mode continu par défaut
can become
Les propriétés du fichier règlent l'ouverture en mode continu
Les infos du fichier déterminent l'ouverture en mode continu
Les infos du fichier règlent l'ouverture en mode continu
(IMHO «propriétés» is better for next option)
2. Ouvrir en mode continu par défaut les fichiers sans informations de
propriétés
can become
Ouvrir en mode continu par défaut les fichiers sans propriétés
3. Chevauchement pour les touches « Page précédente » / « Page suivante
can become
Empiètement des touches « Page précédente / suivante »
Les touches ⇞ et ⇟mordent de
Please note that keyboard symbols are a more accurate and visual description of
the keys, as I can see a lot of french users that doesn't know the meaning of
these keys. The mathematical symbols ⇞(page up) and ⇟ (page down) are widely
availables in fonts.
- page up (⇞) is character UPWARDS ARROW WITH DOUBLE STROKE (U+21DE)
and coded as UTF-8 0xE2 0x87 0x9E, UTF-16 0x21DE and XML ⇞
- page down (⇟) is character DOWNWARDS ARROW WITH DOUBLE STROKE
and coded as UTF-8 0xE2 0x87 0x9F, UTF-16 0x21DF and XML ⇟
