--- Comment #11 from Paul Floyd <[email protected]> ---
The change to NEWS is wrong. Generally we just add one line with the bugzilla
ID and title.

The manual entry for --expensive-definedness-checks will need updating.

The new test needs to be added to .gitignore.

There are a few issues in the new test. If it goes in memcheck/tests then it
will run on 32 bit systems. In that case the implicit assumptions that unsigned
long is 64 bit is false and writing to bytes 6 and 7 will be beyond the
requested 4 bytes. The test will also likely fail on big-endian systems.

I get the following warnings:

paulf> /usr/local/bin/clang-devel -g -O3 -m32 partial_bitfield_cmp.c
partial_bitfield_cmp.c:23:32: warning: shift count >= width of type
[-Wshift-count-overflow]
   23 |    volatile int r = (w >= (1UL << 48)) ? 1 : 0;
      |                                ^  ~~
partial_bitfield_cmp.c:26:19: warning: shift count >= width of type
[-Wshift-count-overflow]
   26 |    r += (w > (1UL << 48)) ? 1 : 0;
      |                   ^  ~~
2 warnings generated.
