Screenshot of the 2 monitor session
DESCRIPTION
Since 6.8, exclusive mode creates a single virtual output that matches the size
of the client window / screen. A client that requests multiple monitors
(xfreerdp3 /multimon) displays an image on only one monitor, while the others
stay black.
Since the X11 session was removed, using xrdp with startplasma-x11 (what I've
always done so far) is no longer an option. So there is currently no way to use
a remote session with multiple monitors at the client's native resolution under
Plasma with a locked host. I also tried the third-party project KHeadless, but
it didn't work either. So until I find another option or it gets fixed, I will
have to stick to 6.7.5 on a rolling release system.
STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. enable exclusive mode
2. Connect from a client with two monitors: xfreerdp3 /v:host /u:user /multimon
/dynamic-resolution /gfx:progressive
(maybe also /monitors:0,1)
OBSERVED RESULT
Only one client monitor displays an image, the others remain black. This
happens independent of which monitors were selected. Using /span instead of
/multimon does not help either.
With exclusive mode disabled, /multimon does work, but the physical outputs are
(obviously) mirrored at their native resolution, and the host session remains
unlocked. Also independant on the number of monitors connected to the host.
EXPECTED RESULT
In exclusive mode, KRdp creates one virtual output per monitor in the client's
monitor layout.
SOFTWARE/OS VERSIONS
Operating System: CachyOS (7.2.10-1-cachyos (64-bit))
KDE Plasma Version: 6.8.0
KDE Frameworks Version: 6.31.0
Qt Version: 6.12.0
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
KRdp 6.8.0, FreeRDP 3.32.2 (client and host). Host has 2× 1080p, client has 2×
1440p.
Server log during connection attempt (with /span):
krdpserver[13459]: [ERROR][com.freerdp.core.peer] - [rdp_set_error_info]:
ERRINFO_LOGOFF_BY_USER [0x0001000C]
krdpserver[13459]: There are no outputs - creating placeholder screen
krdpserver[13459]: New client connected: UNIX platform Native X Server
krdpserver[13459]: QFile::remove: Empty or null file name
krdpserver[15558]: pam_unix(login:account): setuid failed: Operation not
permitted
krdpserver[13459]: Switched to greeter successfully.
krdpserver[13459]: Tried to make uncreated stream active
krdpserver[13459]: eglChooseConfig returned this many configs: 1
krdpserver[13459]: PipeWire frame did not contain usable image data
However, resolution management works really well. With /dynamic-resolution, the
virtual output matches the client's native resolution, which is a major
improvement over earlier versions, where only the physical outputs were
mirrored.
