Bug ID: 526697
Summary: File dialog does not restore descending sort order for
Date column
Classification: Frameworks and Libraries
Product: frameworks-kio
Version First 6.24.0
Reported In:
Platform: Other
OS: Linux
Status: REPORTED
Severity: normal
Priority: NOR
Component: Open/save dialogs
Assignee: [email protected]
Reporter: [email protected]
CC: [email protected]
Target Milestone: ---
DESCRIPTION
The KDE open/save file dialog does not restore the descending sort order when
sorting by the Date column.
The selected sort column is correctly remembered as Date, and
~/.config/kdeglobals correctly contains:
[KFileDialog Settings]
Sort by=Date
Sort reversed=true
However, when the file dialog is opened again, it is always sorted by Date
ascending.
The issue is reproducible directly with kdialog, so it is not specific to a web
browser or xdg-desktop-portal.
Sorting by Name descending is restored correctly, so the problem appears to be
specific to the Date column.
STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Run:
kdialog --getopenfilename "$HOME"
2. Switch to detailed view.
3. Sort by Date descending, with the newest files first.
4. Close the dialog.
5. Check ~/.config/kdeglobals. It contains:
Sort by=Date
Sort reversed=true
6. Run again:
kdialog --getopenfilename "$HOME"
OBSERVED RESULT
The dialog opens with Date sorted ascending, even though "Sort reversed=true"
is still present in kdeglobals.
EXPECTED RESULT
The dialog should restore the previously selected Date descending order, with
the newest files first.
SOFTWARE/OS VERSIONS
Operating System: Kubuntu 26.04 LTS
KDE Plasma Version: 6.6.6
KDE Frameworks Version: 6.24.0
Qt Version: 6.10.2
Kernel Version: 7.0.0-34-generic (64-bit)
Graphics Platform: Wayland
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
Installed packages:
libkf6kiofilewidgets6: 6.24.0-0ubuntu1
libkf6kiowidgets6: 6.24.0-0ubuntu1
xdg-desktop-portal-kde: 6.6.6-0ubuntu0.1
Control test:
If the dialog is sorted by Name descending instead, the descending order is
correctly restored on the next opening.
This suggests that persistence of the sort direction works in general, but
restoring descending order specifically for the Date column does not.
