Bug ID: 526216
Summary: Wacom tablet module registers global shortcuts with
default keys on machines without a tablet
Classification: Applications
Product: systemsettings
Version First 6.6.4
Reported In:
Platform: Kubuntu
OS: Linux
Status: REPORTED
Severity: normal
Priority: NOR
Component: kcm_wacomtablet
Assignee: [email protected]
Reporter: [email protected]
Target Milestone: ---
SUMMARY
kde-config-tablet is installed by default on Kubuntu. Its daemon registers
eight global shortcuts with default keys even though no tablet was ever
connected:
Map to fullscreen = Meta+Ctrl+F, Map to screen 1/2 = Meta+Ctrl+1/2,
Next/Previous Profile = Meta+Ctrl+N/P, Toggle screen map selection =
Meta+Ctrl+M, Toggle stylus mode = Meta+Ctrl+S, Toggle touch tool = Meta+Ctrl+T.
They take these keys away from other apps and scripts. A KWin script that
registers Meta+Ctrl+F gets no key at all: kglobalaccel keeps the existing owner
silently and saves the script's action with an empty shortcut. Meta+Ctrl+F is
where people who swap Ctrl and Super expect the macOS "toggle full screen"
(Ctrl+Cmd+F).
STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Fresh Kubuntu 26.04 on a machine that never had a Wacom tablet.
2. System Settings > Keyboard > Shortcuts, search for "Map to".
OBSERVED RESULT
Wacom Tablet actions hold Meta+Ctrl+F, Meta+Ctrl+1, ...
EXPECTED RESULT
No default keys for tablet-only actions (users with a tablet can assign them),
or register them only after a tablet has been seen.
SOFTWARE/OS VERSIONS
kde-config-tablet 6.6.4-0ubuntu1, Kubuntu 26.04.1, Plasma 6.6.6, KDE Frameworks
6.24.0, Qt 6.10.2, Wayland.
