SUMMARY
Task Manager window identity for Firefox Developer Edition flips to standard
Firefox during a system update
DESCRIPTION
I use Firefox Developer Edition (firefox-developer-edition) on Arch Linux.
When running a system update (sudo pacman -Syu), pacman triggers desktop
database update hooks mid-session. When this happens while Firefox Developer
Edition is running, its Task Manager icon and desktop identification
unexpectedly revert to standard Firefox.
Checking queryWindowInfo shows that while desktopFile and resourceClass are set
to firefox-developer-edition, resourceName is firefox. When the task manager
cache invalidates during the pacman update, libtaskmanager falls back to
matching on resourceName, causing it to map the running window to standard
firefox.desktop.
STEPS TO REPRODUCE
Launch firefox-developer-edition on Plasma (Wayland).
Run sudo pacman -Syu in a terminal (or manually run
update-desktop-database).
Observe the running Firefox Developer Edition icon in the Task Manager
panel.
OBSERVED RESULT
The active Firefox Developer Edition window loses its icon and gets re-labeled
as standard Firefox in the Task Manager.
EXPECTED RESULT
The window should retain its firefox-developer-edition identity and icon after
desktop database updates.
