DESCRIPTION
When both displays are enabled and the internal display uses 125% scaling while
the external monitor uses 100% scaling, XWayland applications do not detect the
external monitor's native resolution.
Games such as Counter-Strike 2 and Red Dead Redemption 2 only offer resolutions
such as:
- 4300x1800 (reported as native)
- 3840x1600
- 3200x1800
The correct native resolution (3440x1440) is missing.
KScreen correctly reports the monitor as:
3440x1440 @ 99.98 Hz
Scale: 1
However, xrandr (running under XWayland) reports:
DP-1 connected primary 4300x1800
4300x1800 corresponds exactly to 3440x1440 multiplied by the 1.25 scaling
factor of the laptop display.
Steps to reproduce:
1. Start a Wayland Plasma session.
2. Connect an external monitor running at 3440x1440 with scaling set to 100%.
3. Leave the laptop display enabled with scaling set to 125%.
4. Launch an XWayland game (Counter-Strike 2 or Red Dead Redemption 2).
5. Open the game's video settings.
Expected result:
The game should detect the external monitor's native resolution of 3440x1440.
Actual result:
The game reports 4300x1800 as the native resolution and 3440x1440 is
unavailable.
Workarounds:
Either of the following immediately fixes the problem:
- Disable the internal laptop display.
- Change the laptop display scaling from 125% to 100%.
After doing either of these, XWayland immediately reports the correct 3440x1440
resolution and games detect it correctly.
