The crash seemed to be specific to that Digikam build (release on or about the
18th). Someone mentioned a crash bug confirmation on the duplicate-find
mechanism, and the fix/release for that seems to have also either fixed the
startup crash on mine (on Win10). or there is some other factor in play related
(updated dll or a flag etc etc). But the build from 7/24 is running fine, and
the duplicate finder seem to work correctly (absent the crash on the first run
it seems, but not been tested much).

As regards Windows 11, that isnt ever going to happen. Aside from my machine
not having a TPM module, Im not running that bloated spyware pretending to be
an OS, or hacking that via Rufus and reinstalling it for every major update .
Ill switch to Mint or something else for Digikam if that becomes necessary.
Unfortunately, many of my business apps require Win, so switching over isnt
trivial.
