Unless the distribution correctly sets paths, it could be caused by
startkde/startplasmacompositor scripts:

XDG_DATA_DIRS="@CMAKE_INSTALL_PREFIX@/@SHARE_INSTALL_PREFIX@:/usr/share:/usr/local/share

XDG_DATA_DIRS="@KDE_INSTALL_FULL_DATADIR@:/usr/share:/usr/local/share

No check is being made if the variables are (or contain) "/usr/share" or
"/usr/local/share".
