I agree with you their response was a little brutal and confusing, but you know, I don't think you are stupid, nor do I think they are so they are also saying this for a reason, therefore I believe the way to engage with them to find out is not to be dismissive of their approach. Btw, calling stupid anyone who cannot read a few lines of code is also a bit brutal.
