Well it's not like that anywhere else I can think of, where I can make it look
absolutely ridiculous if I wanted to. Complete user control. I'm not sure why
this particular thing is so entrenched.

Agreed. I'd love to have the skills to be able to.

People can have it how they want, but dialogue boxes and focus stealing was
generally decided to be a bad idea in 1990 or so. I remember the memes, about
clippy and other designs similar to this. It's workflow: I don't want to make
the same selection 5k times, I want to set it once.
