Yeah, I am running Kate out of another desktop environment and it's weird... it stays up in the background, doesn't start when you want it to, freezes randomly. I've gone back to VIM :-\ In this case, I set my desktop to "Folder view" then as I was changing my desktop wallpaper. I clicked on "select file". Plasmashell crashed. Then something else crashed in the background, while I was writing the bug report!! Don't know, don't care, I am not using KDE5 for now.
