Sounds indeed like an exact duplicate, but on different HW/driver.

Try to
   export __GL_YIELD="NOTHING"
for the game, but since plasmashell will likely run on the intel chip as well,
that *should* not be too troublesome. It will rather be because of the optimus
pipe being blocked on the intel side because of "things plasmashell does in its
opengl context™"

As a quick solution for the WE, simply
pkill -SIGTOP plasmashell
# run game
pkill -CONT plasmashell

would hopefully do?

Alternatively, can you disable optimus and run the nvidia GPU exclusively,
resp. only optirun palsmashell as well (maybe it does better on
switching/sharing active contexts)?
