I think it would be useful to reuse that code and just clean it and customize it to be able to use it as library. His code and some documentation is currently available here: http://git.zcu.cz/svn/bakalarky/bezdek/ Maybe you can take a look into the code and consider what should be reuse and if there are some problematic dependencies etc...
