I would agree that different dialogs for loading data from databases
and from files is a good idea.

It seems like Paul put a lot of work into improving the way OpenJUMP
loads files. Do we have reasons why Paul shouldn't commit? If we do,
then we should put together a bullet list that we can discuss and Paul
can address. It would be a shame to have his work go to waste.

I am coming to this conversation late, so maybe the problem has
already been solved. Please let me know if this is not the case.
