I just read over the spec for the GML Simple Features Profile. It does define a severely restricted schema format, so that's a good thing. But it still requires parsing a schema file, and it stills allows a fair amount of flexibility and features.
It might not take *too* long to code up a SFP reader & writer, making use of an XML parser.
