Dear Thiagarajan,
Your letter sharing your personal experience of life alongside muslims shows
that yes there are sensible considerate, hindus out there, unlike the ones
who try to be divisive and hate mongering.
As a Christian Indian Doctor based in UK, I have more HINDU colleagues (
Doctors) and non doctors MSc, MBA student friends than I have Indian
Christian colleagues here in UK! We get on so well. My Hindu friends treat me
with respect and cordiality. Interestingly they celebrate Christmas every year
with their children more fervently than some christians in India ! I take an
active interest in participating with them in the Deepavali festival so much so
I am asked to compere the social programme, where I ( as a Christian) tell our
"white" colleagues about the origin of the HINDU festival !
I used to have a Fijian friend ( here in UK) of Indian origin ( Muslim) who
spoke better Bhojpuri than Lallu Prasad! he was married to a Hindu girl of
Indian origin. These two adopted me as their family member and looked after me
better than some of my christian relatives in India.Living in harmony without
any religious prejudice ... no body was trying to convert each other.
Apparently there has never been any dysharmony between Hindus and Muslim in
FIJI. Hindus apparently celebrate Ramzan and Eid out there and Muslims
celebrate Deepavali and Holi and other Hindu festivals without prejudice .
They ( My FIJIAN friends) used to ask me why the HIndus and Muslims in India
are always at each other throats??
Obviously I had no answer to that. All I could do was to try and explain that
it was the bloody politicians who took advantage of certain fanatics in each
religion for their own personal political benefit.
Certain people in this forum try to dig up quotes and historical articles of
dubious authenticity to try and prove to the rest of us of their superior
knowledge, all in the game to create dysharmony in our society. However I am
happy that there are people out there who are down to earth, doing their bit
for the jharkhandis in their own ways .
