I had the same problem, it seems this was related to the version of java I was using.
I installed the native one using *yum install java *which installs java 1.5 => *# rpm -qa | grep java java-1.5.0-gcj-1.5.0.0-29.1.el6.x86_64* when I installed version 1.7 and some other dependencies: *yum install jenkins dejavu-sans-fonts fontconfig java-1.7.0-openjdk* Jenkins is running fine!
