So I suppose the original Xerces 2.7.1 (?) in JDK is continually patched, but no new features are added. That version info is rather misleading. Thanks to this independence I hope new Xerces fixes (e.g. XInclude one :-) can be propagated into JDK even before a new Xerces release...
