Research Position Available on Business-Driven IT Management Hewlett-Packard (HP) and Universidade Federal de Campina Grande (UFCG), Brazil Systems and Computing Department (DSC) *Research Position* UFCG/DSC invites* *applications for* a Research Position (Graduate Student*at the PhD or Masters level) in the area of predictive model building, solution and validation for BusinessDriven IT Management decision support. BusinessDriven IT Management (BDIM) attempts to evaluate the impact that IT has on the business and aims at rethinking IT management from a business perspective. Solutions for merging BDIM and ITIL's Change Management are currently being investigated in a cooperation project between UFCG and Hewlett-Packard Brazil. The project aims at providing negotiation and decision support in ITIL processes in general. Recent results of the project are available in http://jacques.dsc.ufcg.edu.br/publications.html#bottomlineproject . The candidate should: o have strong mathematical background, preferably in the areas of probability and statistics, stochastic processes and calculus; o have some knowledge of the principles and methods of cost-benefit analysis, including the time value of money, present value concepts, cost accounting, business economics, and quantifying the tangible and intangible benefits; o have good programming skills in Matlab, Java or similar; o be able to communicate information in a succinct and organized manner in English, both orally and in writing and to produce written technical material, that is appropriate for the intended English-speaking audience; o be available to travel abroad; o hold a university degree in statistics, mathematics, computer science, electrical engineering or a related field by December 2007. BDIM is a highly competitive research area and requires high level of dedication. Candidates should be able to work both independently and as part of a team, as well as be motivated to pursue a graduate program either at the Masters or PhD level in Computer Science at UFCG and at cooperating institutions worldwide. The appointment will be for 1 year, starting immediately. Financial compensation, sponsored through Fundação Parque Tecnológico da Paraíba PaqTcPB, will be slightly higher than the value of graduate scholarships in Brazil.
