Most of the women who inspire me to hold my ground
in this field actually had little to do with computers - like my college
calculus teacher. I had not taken a math class in 4 years when I entered
her class, and I approached with much trepidation. There were some
difficult times in the class, but her enthusiasm and determination
to show how elegant mathematics could be inspired me. I soon became
determined not to let the subject get the
better of me no matter what my pre-conceived notions were - and that skill
has come to my rescue time and time again since I switched from being a
historian to a full-time techie.
