BTW: 

Almost nothing that Palo Alto did conformed to the standards of 
the day. Yet that doesn't seem to have stopped what Palo Alto did 
from becoming extremely successful now.


Of course, it hasn't done Xerox a whole lot of good. But that's
beside the point. The point being that standards don't affect 
research and experimentation. Only marketplace implementation.
