I guess that the knowledge I acquired by myself (about computers in
general and Linux/Unix in particular) outnumbers what I learned attending
courses _easily_. And this knowledge will remain in my brain (hmm, this
rhymes :-) as opposed to something I "had to learn for the exam".

Being really educated doesn't mean having attended to courses in a special
field. The unis and colleges don't have a monopoly on education, or in
other words, they can't teach you things that you can't learn in a
different way (reading documentation, learning from friends, etc.).
