yes, a patent search...
you'd be suprized what hasn't been done ;->
the advice that I've recieved tho is that since patent law favors
ignorance of inventors (ie if you don't "know" about a patent then your
fines won't be nearly as huge!) so if you ever plan on patenting things
you don't want to start reading patents... so you get lawyers to do it for
you, and any serious professional doesn't want to be a patent
reviewer... now maybe this is why our patent system sucks so much...
