The backported patch contained new dependencies that was not needed in 1.x.
Instead of cherry picking the dependencies I just decided to remove them since
the needed dependencies will be added by transitively. Yeah a forward port to
trunk is needed especially because of the cli bug. Let's do it after this patch
gets checked in?

Yeah I took a look at the code and I believe throwing exception in this case
should be fine as it is properly handled upstream by all cases. Something we
can forward port as well.
