Backport of https://github.com/apache/flink/pull/28350 (31fb173d9cb) and https://github.com/apache/flink/pull/28587 (cbd7792ee9b), which went to master but not to this branch. Both tests use `forMainThread()` next to a separate I/O executor. The main-thread step of `Execution.deploy()` then runs on the I/O thread, fails its thread assertion, and without restarts the job fails. The two commits run scheduling and deployment on the test thread. Last occurrence on this branch in a push build of 2026-09-22, `Default (Java 17) / Test (module: core)`: https://github.com/apache/flink/actions/runs/35767837856/job/106905457791 The `CachedShuffleDescriptorsTest` failure in the same job is FLINK-40682, with an open fix in #29208. Verified locally on JDK 17 under CPU load, with assertions enabled as in surefire. The two classes fail in 19 of 500 runs on the base commit and in 0 of 500 with this change.
