Backport of https://github.com/apache/flink/pull/27634 (b63bae82e33), which went to master and release-2.3 but not to this branch. The test source finishes right after emitting its records, so an `AddSplitEvent` or `NoMoreSplitsEvent` from its coordinator can reach an already `FINISHED` task. The job then fails on the lost event. The reader now only reports end of input after receiving `NoMoreSplitsEvent`. Last occurrence on this branch in a push build of 2026-09-25, `Default (Java 17) / Test (module: tests)`: https://github.com/apache/flink/actions/runs/36164487951/job/108172434529 Verified locally on JDK 17 under CPU load, with assertions enabled as in surefire. 23 of 500 `testWatermarkForwarding` runs fail on the base commit and 0 of 500 with this change.
