As 5.5 went into security-updates-only recently and the 2.4 is supported
by most of the distros out there (only checked debian, but they are
AFAIK the slowest in adapting) that should be fine.

I'd expect an appropriate information at least at
http://php.net/manual/en/ldap.requirements.php
