Once upon a time, there was a real difference between require and include -- where require was compile-time and include was run-time. PERHAPS it would be interesting to consider something not unlike the old 'require' which is compile-time include, with some kind of name that doesn't confuse users as much as require did back in the day. -- Some people have a "gift" link here.
