Nobody has criticized Marcus work. I have not heard anyone claim that the additions are not useful. There was just questions if we should not preserve the old way and what should be the default.
The only thing I criticize Marcus for is to call everybody stupid that thinks the old way had its uses. But that is unrelated to his awesome work on PHP OOP.
