IMHO, if the fix is available for the crashes and the only thing it breaks is some binary compatability, I'd say appling and releasing it would be the thing to do. And it's an awesome thing to do, dig in and fix some other stuff when the opportunity presents itself. I appreciate this _very_ much. There's still a ton of people, myself included, widely using PHP4.
