Hi there,

We are in restructuring and reviewing the installation instructions provided in the manual for PHP. We expect the updated instructions to work properly for actual PHP versions and recent versions of the servers. We are going to remove irrelevant instructions on the way, and add more servers if possible and desired.

We also would like to ask people experienced in setting up PHP *properly* on different platforms to help us refine and fix the documentation. We know that the windows instructions are a mess in suggesting moving and copying stuff all around the system and windows dirs. We are not certain though what should be there instead as proper instructions, so would like to ask people who have expertise in setting up PHP on these platforms. [Wez already promised he is going to help with general Windows instructions, but seems like he had no time this week to reply to our mails].

We are very much interested in people reviewing the MacOS, different Unix variants, different servers, etc. Basically everything related to the installation. Pick the part you have experience in! We are also in need of people fixing the docs for PHP 5 (so the suggestions will work for PHP 4 and PHP 5 too).

The restructuring of the installation part is now complete, and awaits your help in refining the instructions for different servers, and add more if desired. Here is how you can help:

 1. Check out the phpdoc module. Get to the en/install folder.
    On the web: http://cvs.php.net/cvs.php/phpdoc/en/install/

 2. This is the start folder for our new install instructions
structure. Do not let any other place confuse you, where you
might find instructions on installation. This is the folder
    to work with.

 3. Provide diffs against installation instructions to
    [EMAIL PROTECTED] if possible.

Thanks for your cooperation,
Gabor Hojtsy (AKA Goba) - PHP Documentation Editor
