Hi,

this problem is getting worse and worse: whenever I visit
nntp+Gmane:gmane.emacs.devel or nntp+Gmane:gmane.emacs.help (I used to
read these groups a lot for years), even if there are only a few new
messages, and even if I say "only download a few old messages", Gnus
still downloads around 2 MB of data from the server each time.

Expiring the group does not help. Group catchup also doesn't change
this. The only thing that does help is M-c (`gnus-group-clear-data')
which clears all related group data completely, as far as I understand.

But this is very radical - maybe I don't need a history of many years of
activity, but I don't want to loose all of the recent data, too.

Can anyone provide a better solution for this problem?

TIA,

Michael.
