Many thanks Garg ji. I checked the species of *Symplocos* found in the Ooty - Coonoor region - they are: *Symplocos obtusa* Wall. ex G.Don *Symplocos foliosa* Wight *Symplocos cochinchinensis* subsp. *laurina *(Retz.) Noot. (*Symplocos acuminata* (Blume) Miq.)
The best possibility of the posted plant would be *Symplocos cochinchinensis* subsp. *laurina *(Retz.) Noot. ... assuming some variations in the leaves.
