Are you sure that this pkg process is part of the
ON build ?  

Or is this perhaps the opensolaris  update-manager cron
job script that is looking for opensolaris updates (several
times a day) ?   (IIRC there have been complaints by
some opensolaris users about the periodic 
update-manager runs slowing down their systems)

I tried to have a closer look if any pkg processes are
started during an ON build.  But so far I only spotted
pkgsend processes and pkg.depotd, and they did
use less than 25MB (pkgsend) / 50MB (pkg.depotd)
of memory.


OTOH,  I wouldn't expect that a system with 2GB
of memory (1GB,  plus the additional extra 1GB)
has such a big problem running one 400MB process...
