I tend to disagree here. Although contributions are great, they should
never be part of the main system by default. They lack the same kind of

They are not part of the base install - no packages from /contrib are
installed after fresh install.
You can always disable or remove /contrib if you want.
For servers you're going to apply whatever customization you want (like
disabling /contrib), for 99% other users having /contrib is great.
I would love to see a more simple procedure to get //extra though.
Agree. But AFAIK it's coming.
