So... You're running the TB3 that COMES with OpenSolaris... not one from http://releases.mozilla.org/pub/mozilla.org/thunderbird/releases/3.0.1/contrib/solaris_tarball/ (those require LD_BIND_NOW). And... you're not having the "msf" problem probably because you don't have hundreds of folders in your mail server. You would hit the"ulimit / extendedFILE) problem if you had more than 200 folders or so...
