GNOME 2.28 was integrated in B124. So between 124 and 130, the "system
bell" was actually played GNOME sound themes if you are running GNOME
desktop. So if you want to disable it, you can do it in
gnome-volumn-control's "Sound Theme" tab.

However, someone want to "X bell" back. So there is bug 6885862
Jerry Tan fixed it in B131, so now you can hear the "X bell" in all
cases again, together with the GNOME sound theme if you enabled it.

So if you think "X bell" is too loud, it is not related to GNOME. You
have to adjust it to use "xset" in one of your start scripts. If you put
it under your $HOME, it won't be lost after system upgrade.

hello all,
i've just upgraded my laptop from b130 to b131. In b130, no beep, but
now, in b131, the beep is again here!
i tried:
xset b off
in a terminal, but beep is here
Yeah, I can reproduce this issue, too. If you listen carefully, the beep
after the "xset b off" and "xset b on" is different. The "on" one is a
little longer.

I am not sure where the problem is.

do i have to fill a bug? or is there an existing one to track the problem?
Bug 6885862 has been reopened for this issue. So I think no need to file
another one.

Thanks,
harry
Yes, and 'xset b 5 100 20', which I had used on previous sound issues, does not work either. I shall add myself to the bug.
