Frank:
According to Brian Cameron, GDM 2.28 integrated into build 130. I think
he might be correct in that all the xdmcp problems started with b130. We're
running snv124 and b124 and I don't think they use GDM 2.28. How can
you tell?
The new GDM 2.28 integrated in build 130, so if you are using build 124,
then I doubt you are using the new GDM.
However, to make sure, you can run the following command to see what
version you are running:
$ gdmflexiserver --command=VERSION
The above command works with the old and new GDM. The newer GDM 2.28
also supports running:
$ gdm --version
$ gdmflexiserver --version

At some point (probably when GNOME 2.28 integrated into nv_124), GNOME
took over control of the X bell and started playing it through GNOME

Since GDM 2.28 will integrate into build 130, I recommend we see if
the new
version of GDM works better. If it exhibits the same problem, then it
will
make sense to look into the problem further.
