The virtual cd/dvd is present, but no (virtual) media is
inserted in the drive ?

Ok, so it seems my theory that this could be defect 6282
is wrong; the vmware cdrom hardware is sending a valid
length (hex 24 bytes).

Hmm, not sure how to find out what is causing the
fork failures... Is it possible to ssh into the opensolaris
guest (and look around with prstat or top) while hal tries
to start? I guess the machine is more or less hanging
or busy for five minutes while hald tries to start and
does not start the X11 server and the gdm login, correct?
