Why is it terrible to hear? It's a fact of doing business. Until the rest of the world gets off the Windows platform and the tools running on that platform there will always be a segment of any company that will need to run that platform and those tools in order to conduct business with the rest of the world. And as much as we'd like to think so, Solaris (open or otherwise) is not the solution to every problem (just like Windows and Linux aren't the solution to every problem). It's getting better but I doubt it will ever completely replace all other platforms for every conceivable task (which isn't a bad thing). That said, running other platforms (in particular a certain platform out of Redmond) requires pretty good justification.
