Could you please describe in more detail what areas (applications?) are problematic, what locales have missing glyph issues etc.? I think there are certainly font files that could be removed with little or no impact. One thing I don't understand is why there are Vera* fonts while the DejaVu project builds on these. Is there any document describing the planned [font] cuts?
